Definition:
Web or Internet Marketing refers to marketing through the Internet. It concerns all those activities of a business that aim to promote their products and services online.
Which are those activities:
In many cases internet marketing is, incorrectly of course, thought to be just the development of a website. Although a company website plays a major role on web promotion, online marketing goes far beyond that point.
A well planned website development
Same as a well planned promotion strategy, a website has to be built and managed in reference with the potential clients of its owner company. This means that:
1. The potential client has to find and be encouraged to visit the website (search engines - search engine marketing).
2. Then the visitor has to be convinced that he is in the right place and that he can easily communicate with his supplier.
3. And, finally, he has to be driven to choose and get the offered products or services of the company.
What else does internet marketing include:
- Online Advertising (Web Campaigns, Microsites, Targeting, Creative formats, Media Planning, Media Buying, Trafficking, Reporting).
- Other forms of communication and advertising (e-Mail and Search Engine Optimization, Viral Marketing).
- Social Networking and Social Media (Community Sites, Blogs, Podcasts, Social Networking Sites, etc.)
